The EL CHAMUYO quartet performs a wide sweep of Argentinian tango music, ranging from golden era of the 1920s and '30s, through to the tango nuevo masterpieces of Piazzolla, and on to a few contemporary composers. While respecting the tradition, El Chamuyo also takes this repertoire as a starting point for improvisation, blurring the boundaries between tango and jazz in exciting and innovative ways. Not forgetting that this music is rooted in dance, the quartet regularly performs at milongas for tango dancers.

As the house pianist and organizer of Bracknell Jazz, Simon Cook is a familiar figure to our audience.
Lockdown gave Simon the opportunity to study free bass accordion technique online with jazz accordionist Karen Street. This led Simon to the chromatic bandoneon, enabling him to play in several tango ensembles. |
